Virtsu II & III wind farms

The Virtsu II wind farm was completed in 2008. The first wind turbine was connected with the power grid in April 2008. Full capacity was achieved in the same month. There are three Enercon E-70 type wind turbines, each with a capacity of 2.3 MW, in the Virtsu II wind farm. Full capacity of the wind farm is 6.9 MW and the yearly production of electricity is approximately 16.2 GWh. Total investment of the Virtsu II wind farm is EUR 7.8 million.

The Virtsu III wind farm was established in December 2009. The first wind turbine was connected with the power grid in February 2010. There are 3 Enercon E-70 type wind turbines, each with a capacity of 2.3 MW, in the Virtsu III wind farm. Full capacity of the wind farm is 6.9 MW and the yearly production of electricity is approximately 18 GWh. Total investment of the Virtsu III wind farm is EUR 9.8 million.

The electric turbines of both wind farms are produced by a German company Enercon GmbH. The height of the mast of the wind turbine is 85 m, rotor diameter 71 m. Weight of the wind turbine is 230 tons. The expected life-span of the wind turbines is 20 years.

The Virtsu II and III wind farms are located in Lääne County, Hanila Parish, close to Virtsu. The wind farms comprise an area of 39 hectares.
