Hiiumaa offshore wind farm

Nelja Energia OÜ started developing the Hiiumaa offshore wind park in 2006. A special purpose company, Hiiumaa Offshore Tuulepark OÜ (LLC), was established.

The founding of the Hiiumaa offshore wind farm is outlined in stages starting in 2017. Constructing such a large offshore wind farm, along with connection and technical development work on the electrical system, takes at least 3 years.

Approximately 200 wind turbines will be installed in the Hiiumaa wind farm, each with a capacity of 3-5 MW. The total capacity of the wind farm will be approximately 700 MW and the yearly production of electricity will be approximately 2.6 TWh. Final total capacity and yearly production depends on the selection and placement of turbines. The expected life-span of the wind turbines is 20 years.

The wind farm has been planned to be founded as three groups of wind turbines, situated on Apollo, Vinkovi and Neupokojevi shoals, located in the north, north-west and west of Hiiumaa.

There are plans to integrate the wind farm into the Estonian transfer grid. The final location of the connection point in the main grid, as well as the connection diagram, depends greatly on further development of the whole Baltic energy system.
